Getting started
Before you begin
What is pixmail.app?
A webmail client: you sign in, connect your existing IMAP/SMTP mailbox, and get an interface in the PixAgentur look, plus AI tools for email. pixmail.app doesn't run a mailbox of its own, it talks to your mail server live.
Do I already need an email mailbox?
Yes. pixmail.app isn't a mail provider, it's an interface for a mailbox you already have, at IONOS, GMX, Gmail, or your own server, as long as it speaks IMAP and SMTP.
What does it cost to use?
After registration you get starting credit. The webmail client remains free to use after the trial. Add credit when you want to use AI actions. Amounts and packages are on the Pricing page.
What's the fastest way to get started?
Three steps: create an account and open the confirmation email, connect your mailbox by IMAP/SMTP, and get going. The full walkthrough with all eight steps is on the Guide page.

IMAP, SMTP, and credentials
Which providers are already set up?
For IONOS, GMX, web.de, and Strato, the server, port, and encryption are already filled in, you just enter the address and password. all-inkl and the PixAgentur server need a customer-specific hostname that you enter yourself. Every other provider runs through "Custom server" with manual settings.
Why does Gmail ask for an app password?
Google doesn't allow sign-in with your normal password once two-factor authentication is on. Instead, you create an app password in your Google account and enter that at pixmail.app. Signing in directly through your Google account is coming later.
Does Outlook.com already work without limits?
Not quite yet: Microsoft requires OAuth sign-in for many accounts, and pixmail.app hasn't built that in yet. Until then, the connection through classic credentials can be limited depending on your account settings.
How many mail accounts can I connect?
Up to five mailboxes at once. You switch between them using the account switcher in the folder list, and each account keeps its own folders and signatures.
AI and costs
Tools and their price
Which AI tools are there?
Among others: reply from keywords, translate, summarize, change the tone, generate a signature, an inbox briefing, pull events and tasks from a mail, suggest a subject, check your own draft, and understand attachments. The full overview is on the AI page.
What does a single AI call cost?
The price is deducted from your credit once the reply has arrived. The amount depends on the tool and the tier you choose, Standard, Quality, or Premium. The price list is on the Pricing page and in the app under Settings → Credit.
What happens when my credit runs out?
The webmail client keeps working as normal, reading and writing still work. Only the AI tools pause until there's credit again.
How do I add credit?
Under Settings → Credit, choose a package. Credit is added automatically once Stripe confirms the payment.
Privacy
Your mail, your data
Do you store my emails?
No. Mail bodies and attachments only pass through the client on their way to your mail server, we don't store them, not even briefly on disk. For the list view, sender, subject, and date sit in memory for up to two minutes, then they're gone too.
What happens to my mail text when I use an AI tool?
For text AI, recognised personal details are replaced with placeholders before the request to Anthropic or OpenAI and restored in the answer. Details in free text may go undetected. MP3 and image requests with recognised personal details are stopped. See the privacy policy for details.
Where are my IMAP/SMTP credentials stored?
Encrypted in our database, with the key kept separate from the program code. Credentials never show up in a log or an error message.
Do you process my mail outside the EU too?
Possibly, depending on which AI provider handles a tool in the background, not every connection currently offers an EU option. Details are on the Privacy promise page.
Technical
Browser, devices, connection
Which devices does pixmail.app run on?
Any current browser, on a computer or a phone. It also works as an installed app, see the next question.
Do I need an app from a store?
No. pixmail.app is an installable web app: you add it straight from the browser to your home screen or start menu, no app store needed. The steps are on the Guide page.
Does pixmail.app work offline?
The interface loads instantly thanks to the installed app shell, even on a weak connection. But the client reads your mail live from your server, without a connection you won't see new messages.
What do I do about a connection error?
The most common causes are a wrong password, a wrong host or port, or the wrong encryption type. The guide lists the usual error messages with their cause in the "If something doesn't work" section.
Account and cancellation
If you want to stop
How do I delete my account?
There's no button for that in the settings yet. Write to us through the Contact page and we'll close your account.
What happens if I don't pay after the trial period?
You can continue using the webmail client. If your credit runs out, only AI actions pause until you add more credit.
Can I change my password?
Yes, through "Forgot password" on the log-in page: you get a link by email and set a new password there. Changing it directly in the account settings isn't available yet.
What happens to my data after I close my account?
A closed account is kept for 30 days, then the account and all related data are deleted for good.
